There’s never a dull moment in continuous improvement at MCL. As the project manager, Janel Falk, is constantly looking for ways to improve production, whether it’s through new tools and technology, different cell layouts, or suggestions from employees. Right now, Janel is focusing on improving MCL’s inventory supermarket as her capstone project for a Black Belt Certification in Six Sigma.

Janel recently completed the classes for her Six Sigma Black Belt certification at the University of Milwaukee. Six Sigma uses numerous tools to improve processes. Anyone who is a Six Sigma Black Belt is expected to lead problem solving projects and coach his or her team along the way. That team may consist of employees who have earned a Green Belt Certification and other company employees. To finalize her course, Janel is required to successfully complete a black belt level project at MCL. Her team is focusing on increasing the efficiencies of pulling jobs in the inventory supermarket, which takes up 75% of the inventory team’s time. Stay tuned as that project progresses!

In May, Janel sat on a panel to review a cut and strip machines during the Electrical Wire Processing Technology Expo in Milwaukee. During panel discussions, she learned that many other suppliers are also working to increase processing times, quality and accuracy; especially when it comes to expedited jobs. Janel hopes that by participating in the panel, she helped the manufacturer of the cut and strip machine develop ideas to improve, which could in turn bring improvements to MCL.
